Join us as we showcase unique aspects of the Welsh, Scottish, and Irish cultures. Enjoy a presentation of each room and videos of each culture's history, art, music, poetry, dance, and more!

Out of the Classroom Curriculum Credit (OCC) is offered for student attendees who register.

This event will also have a live stream option for individuals to participate virtually if they are unable to attend in-person.

Paul Riis Structures – South Park Site Visit

Paul Riis was a Swiss-born landscape architect who served as the first director of Allegheny County Parks from 1928 to 1932. He designed numerous nature-inspired features in both North Park and South Park.

Anne Oyler, who coordinates the Paul Riis Legacy Preservation Volunteers, will tell us about the history and restoration processes related to these beautiful landscape installations. Please visit http://paulriis.org/ for more information about the sites.

White Field, Black Sheep Author Talk

Author Daiva Markelis was raised during the 1960s and 1970s in a Chicago immigrant household where Lithuanian was her first language. Her book "White Field, Black Sheep" explores this collision of old world and new. Come listen to the author speak of recreating the emotional world of adolescence and the hard-won understanding of adulthood with the poignancy of Lithuanian-American life. A $10 donation is suggested.

Kalnas String Ensemble

For the past 150 years, the hills of Pennsylvania have been home to Lithuanian immigrants and their descendants, who settled the region, worked its coal mines, and passed down their deep love of music. Founded by Composer, Educator, and Violinist Dr. Stanley Chepaitis, the Kalnas string quartet's repertoire will include Chepaitis's original compositions inspired by ancient Lithuanian traditional polyphonic folk songs called "sutartines."

A suggested donation of $10 helps the educational outreach of the Lithuanian Nationality Room Committee.

We will be hosting numerous food vendors, local acts, student/academic organizations, and local diaspora organizations. Take part in the region's traditions! Experience the festive music, delicious cuisines, and traditional dances of Eastern Europe and its surrounding regions.This event is co-hosted by the Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs and the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies!
