Indian Room

No tours of the Nationality and Heritage Rooms will be available on Sunday, March 31.  The rooms will be closed and unavailable to the public.

The Indian Room is another Nationality Room based upon a classroom in the home country. It is based upon the ancient Buddhist university known as Nalanda. The seating is arranged to show an open air layout, at which several such spaces abutted each other.

A plaque on the wall mandates villages to support the students' education with housing and food, and three watercolor paintings show the extent of what people from all over Asia travelled to Nalanda for instruction, that men and women studied together and a Chinese student and chronicler of Nalanda receiving his sutras from his teacher.
