This mask shows a fairly naturalistic face that represents an applied white clay makeup, and red lip coloring. The white painted surface is meant to recall white clay applied to faces, and as such, was used to celebrate funerary services. In this way, the mask is a tool to help usher someone's spirit to another plane of existence.
