The African Heritage Room is continental in scope by the choice of the Committee behind its creation. Herein are sub-Saharan African cultural touchstones, such as indications of masks, musical instruments and scenes from history. North African regions are shown with some carved scenes and historic and living languages.

The overall architectural plan is based upon West African Asante urban planning, with adobe, thatch, and white washed clay walls being indicated in modern materials. The well known Nigerian wood carver Lamidi Fakeye carved the door and the chalkboard panels.
